The Defence Institute of High-Altitude Research (DIHAR) functions under the Armaments & Research Development Establishment (ARDE), a leading unit of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO). It specializes in high-altitude trials, testing, and the development of technologies suited for cold and arid regions.
Applications are invited from eligible B.E./B. Tech students in their 7th or 8th semester, as well as postgraduate students, for DRDO-DIHAR paid internships of six months’ duration. Interested candidates may apply using the prescribed format provided.

Minimum educational qualifications:
Candidates must be pursuing a full-time B. Tech/BE degree (7th or 8th semester) or an M. Tech/M.Sc./M.VSc. degree (1st or 2nd year) in the relevant discipline from a recognized Indian University/Institute. They should have a strong academic record, consistently maintaining more than 80% marks or a CGPA above 8.0 on a 10-point scale (proof to be attached), in all previous semesters or throughout the undergraduate program in the case of M. Tech/M.Sc./M.VSc. candidates, from AICTE/UGC-approved institutions.
DURATION OF DRDO-DIHAR PAID INTERNSHIPS:
The internship will have a duration of six months, and students will be awarded a Completion Certificate only after successfully completing the entire six-month period from the date of joining.
How to apply:
a. A clear scanned copy of the duly completed application, along with a reference/request letter from the college (in the prescribed format), must be submitted via email to the Centre Head, DIHAR. Hard copies of applications will not be accepted for the internship.

c. The email subject line must be written as “Application for Paid Internship – [Branch/Discipline]” corresponding to the candidate’s field of study.
d. Last date for application: 06 Oct 2025, 1700 Hr.

(ii) Copy of the marksheet of last semesters/year
(iii) Copy of the Aadhar card
(iv) Reference / Request letter from college for Paid Internship as per attached format

Selection procedure:
a. Candidates will be selected based on their academic performance in previous examinations and, if required, through an online interview/interaction.
b. Age Limit: Below 28 Years.
c. Only the shortlisted students will be informed about the joining formalities via the email address provided in their application form.
d. Applications that are incomplete, contain errors, or are submitted after the deadline will be rejected, and no further correspondence on such cases will be entertained.
e. The selection process will be strictly merit-based, and no correspondence will be made with candidates who are not selected.
Boarding/lodging:
No accommodation or food expenses will be provided.
Payment of stipend:
(i) Stipend for internship for a period of 06 months is applicable only when the student is present at the Lab for a minimum of 15 working days per month
(ii) Payment will be made in two instalments, first installment will be paid after 03 months of Internship and Second installment will be paid after completion of 06 months of internship
(iii) However, Project internship for B. E/B. Tech/M.Tech/M.Sc./M. VSc can be extended further by 8–10 months without payment of stipend
(iv) Stipend will be paid directly to bank account of the student.
Award of certificate:
(i) A completion certificate will be issued to students only after they successfully finish the internship, which requires clearing the project work evaluation, submitting the project report, and fulfilling all other required formalities.
(ii) Students who fail to complete the internship or discontinue midway will not be granted a Completion Certificate, and no stipend/payment will be provided.
(i) Interns must strictly follow the laboratory guidelines throughout the internship. Any involvement in indiscipline will lead to immediate termination of the internship.
(ii) DIHAR/ DRDO shall have no obligation to offer employment to such interns nor can an intern claim a right for employment on the grounds of completion of the Internship.
(iii) The management reserves the right to change the vacancy positions or selection criteria at any point during selection process of the aforesaid internship scheme without assigning any reason whatsoever.
10. Selected students will have to submit the following documents at the time of joining:
a. All B.E./B. Tech / M. Tech/ M.Sc./ M. VSc previous semesters/year mark sheets in original for verification
b. Original copy of the Reference / Request letter from college for Paid Internship.
c. Original copy of Bonafide Certificate from the College.
d. No Objection Certificate (NOC) from college authorities (in original) on college letterhead mentioning that the student will be relieved for internship at DIHAR (DRDO) and that the student will be present for a minimum 15 working days every month for internship.
e. Police verification certificate from Hometown / place of residence
f. Undertaking for adherence to Indian Official Secrets Act, 1923.
g. Undertaking that interns will follow IT Rules and Regulations applicable for Ministry of Defence and its amendments thereof.
h. Bank account details for transfer of stipend.
i. Original copy of Aadhar Card and college ID card for verification.
j. 3 no passport size colour photo
k. Original documents will be returned immediately after verification.
l. Any other documents if required will be communicated to the student at the time of selection/joining.

AcSIR Registration: Applicants must first register with AcSIR (Academy of Scientific and Innovative Research) and select “CSIR-CCMB Ph.D. program” as a preferred choice before applying to CCMB. (AcSIR is the degree-awarding institute for CSIR lab PhD programs.)
Application Portal Opens: 4 March 2025 (Tuesday)
Application Deadline (Last Date to Apply): 14 April 2025 (Monday) up to 11:59 PM
Admit Card Release: 17 April 2025 (Thursday) – admit cards for the entrance exam emailed to eligible applicants.
Entrance Examination: 20 April 2025 (Sunday) – nationwide computer-based test (CBT) at designated centers (or online proctored).
Interviews (In-Person): Second–Third week of June 2025 (tentative) – on-site interviews at CCMB, Hyderabad for shortlisted candidates. Exact dates will be communicated to those who qualify the written test.

AcSIR Registration: Register on the AcSIR online admission portal and obtain an AcSIR Application Number (AAN). Choose “CSIR-CCMB Ph.D. program” as one of your preferred institutes during AcSIR registration.
Online Application to CCMB: Submit the CCMB PhD application online through the official portal by the deadline. The online application form is available at the CCMB admissions portal (Notification No. 02/2025). No hard copies are required; the entire process is online.
Application Fee: No application fee is charged for the CCMB PhD application.
Preferences: Within the application, candidates can indicate if they wish to be considered for CCMB’s main campus or the Laboratory for the Conservation of Endangered Species (LaCONES).
Submission: Complete all required fields in the form (personal details, academic qualifications, fellowship details, etc.) and submit your application on or before 14 April 2025. After submission, keep a copy of the confirmation and note your application/registration number for future reference.
Screening & Admit Card: After the application deadline, CCMB will screen the online applications to verify eligibility (academic qualifications and valid fellowship). All candidates who meet the criteria will receive an admit card to appear for the Entrance Examination, which will be sent by 17 April 2025.
Written Entrance Exam: A Computer-Based Test (CBT) will be conducted on 20 April 2025 at the candidate's chosen exam centre (or as a remote-proctored online test for those who opt).
Shortlisting for Interview: Performance in the written test will be used to shortlist candidates for the next stage. Only candidates who qualify the CBT and hold a valid fellowship for PhD will be invited for the interviews.
Interview Rounds: Shortlisted candidates will be called to CCMB, Hyderabad for in-person interviews in the 2nd or 3rd week of June 2025. The interview process consists of two rounds spread over two days.
Final Selection: Candidates who excel in both interview rounds (preliminary and final) will be selected for admission to the PhD program. The final selection list will be based on combined performance in the written test and interviews, as well as fulfillment of all eligibility requirements.
Joining: The expected joining/reporting time for the new PhD batch is August 2025.
Mandatory Fellowship: CCMB does not provide direct fellowships for the PhD program; instead, having an external fellowship is compulsory for admission.
Stipend Support: Candidates admitted to the PhD program will receive a stipend from their respective fellowship. For example, the CSIR-UGC JRF fellowship currently provides a stipend of ₹37,000 per month for the first two years as a Junior Research Fellow (JRF), and upon upgradation to Senior Research Fellow (SRF), the stipend increases to ₹42,000 per month from the 3rd year onward. Similar terms apply for other fellowships (UGC, DBT, ICMR, etc.), typically including an annual contingency grant and House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per government norms.
Tenure: The fellowships are generally tenable for 5 years, subject to satisfactory progress (with periodic reviews).
